Keep Your Eyes Fit With Eye Exercise

Many of us go to the gym regularly, walk, jog, cycle - all to look and feel healthy. While we leave no stones unturned to remain fit, it is quite often, that we ignore perhaps the most used organ of our body - the eyes.

Eye exercise, like all exercises which keep our body fit, can keep our eyes healthy and glowing. It minimizes eye strain and prevents many age-related eye disorders too. The best thing about eye exercises is that you do not have to take any extra effort or time out for doing these. The name 'eye relaxation exercise' it self tells you that what you are doing as an eye exercise is ultimately 'relaxing your eyes'! Not just bringing relief for dry eyes, eye exercises reduce eye strain, caused by computers and other causes. The common eye strain symptoms are fatigue, blurred vision, headache, etc. For all those of us who have to spend endless hours in front of a computer, eye exercise can keep our eyes relaxed and bring great relief to the over-worked eyes. Many believe, sleeping or closing your eyes is the best and the only exercise needed. Though it is true, it only fulfills half of your goal to give your eyes the rest and relaxation they need.

There are some eye exercises which if done regularly, can benefit your eyes and keep them in good health.

First of these exercises is to sit on a chair as comfortably as you can. Rub your hands till they feel warm. Then close your eyes and cover them with your cupped palms. Make sure that you do not press the eyeballs, and your nose is uncovered. Leave no gaps between your fingers to ensure that no light filters through your fingers. You will see some traces of colors as you do this. Think darkness and concentrate on the darkness. Breathe in and out slowly. Once your eyes see nothing but darkness, remove your palms from the eyes. Repeat this eye exercise for a minimum of 3 minutes.

The second eye exercise is when you close your eyes for 3 to 5 seconds and keep them open for a similar period of time. Repeat this eye exercise 7 to 8 times. Another eye exercise is to massage them in soft circular movements with the help of your fingers for about 2 minutes. Make sure that you do not press your eyes too hard.

Press the upper eyelid with three fingers of each hand - hold them there for about 2 seconds and then release. Repeat this routine 5 times. You can do some eye exercise while sitting and relaxing. Roll your eyes clock and anti-clock wise alternately. Repeat 5 times and make sure you blink between each movement.
